We are experts at cleaning carpets. We help maintain your floors and protect the carpet warranty with routine deep cleanings and tips to do it yourself. However, there comes a time when you may need to consider replacing your carpet. We have our professional systems and products but sometimes even that isn't enough to make your room feel and smell new again. Here are 5 signs you may need to replace your carpet:
Most carpets have a life span of roughly 10 years. If you've taken proper care of your floors with routine cleanings, you may get a few more years out of it. Most carpets begin to lose their tuft and texture during that time, especially in high traffic areas. If you find yourself cleaning your carpets over and over again without getting desired results it may be time to put your carpet to rest.
Increased Allergy Symptoms
Old carpets can hide allergens well. Sometimes in the fibers and sometimes in the padding below the carpet. If you find your allergies are worse than usual (or you've suddenly developed them!) it may be time to consider replacing your carpet.
Your carpet padding acts as a cushion. An added sound filter and improved insulation. When you get your carpets cleaned, it doesn't alway mean that the carpet padding gets cleaned. Kind of like washing your sheets but not the mattress pad. If you find your carpet wrinkling or odors that are hard to source, it may indicate that your carpet padding (and therefore carpet) needs to be replaced. Carpet padding can be a good home for mold, too.
Wear and tear
It goes without saying that if you have tears in your carpet you should consider replacement. Do you have polyester or nylon? Nylon tends to bounce back easier after a cleaning. Consider this when replacing old carpets. The fibers play an important role in the lifespan of your flooring.
And hey -- we will be honest when we are asked for our opinion. If you have us over and want us to clean the shag carpet in the basement from 1975 we will discuss expected outcomes and hold expectations for you.
